The History of Balanced Achievement
Balanced Achievement’s founder Patrick Zeis is a certified meditation instructor and author who lives in St. Louis, Missouri. After traveling to India for three months in 2009/10, Zeis’ life drastically changed as he became fascinated by the spiritual mysticism found within Indian culture. During his stay there, Zeis had the opportunity to travel to many of the most spiritually significant places on the Subcontinent and began studying the religions of Buddhism and Hinduism. He was also able to spend time volunteering in Buddhist and Hindu communities. This trip, strangely enough, would serve as the starting point of the journey that he took to founding Balanced Achievement.
Upon returning from India, Zeis continued to study the ancient spiritual practices of the east which stirred his interests in western psychology. It was during this time, as he was studying both spirituality and cognitive behavioral therapy, that Zeis was challenged with a debilitating anxiety disorder, causing him to broaden his study focus to include the field of personal development. In the coming years, Zeis spent an equal amount of time studying these three distinctive disciplines: eastern spirituality, western psychology (cognitive behavioral therapy), and personal development.
As he meticulously investigated these three topics, reading hundreds of books, Zeis formed the assumption that eastern spirituality was more compatible with western psychology and personal development than the general population thought. In fact, he determined that not only were they compatible, but that they complemented each other perfectly. As he continued to utilize practices from both the east and west, Zeis began to experience more happiness, success, and higher levels of life fulfillment. In hopes of showing the greater population what is possible when an individual is equipped with the right mindset, knowledge, and strategies, Zeis made the decision to create Balanced Achievement.
